I <3 Apple In-Store Support
Today I brought my Mighty Mouse with me to the Apple store because despite the tons of suggested remedies to solve the problem with dirt in the track ball on the Mighty Mouse I gave up just short of taking the mouse apart to clean out the sensors. After the genius OKed it with his manager he was able to go ahead and give me a brand new mouse! I must say it’s weird to be able to scroll down after months of not being able to. All I’ve got to say is that today was another great experience with an Apple genius - The End.
Back to Opera
As many of you may know I took a hiatus from using Opera as some websites just flat out didn’t work well in Opera so when I realized that I hadn’t tried Flock again since it’d left beta I’d give it another shot. At first I loved it, then I slowly started to hate it. Youtube, WordPress, and Flickr the three sites I use a lot were all very slow and worthless in Flock not to mention that it even managed to slow down the already slow Facebook (which I live on).
So in an attempt to find another browser I decided I’d go back to Opera after all I missed speed dial…a lot and no plugin I found could match the one native to Opera
At this point I’m using both Safari and Opera interchangeably I use Safari for sites that Opera doesn’t render correctly and I may be using Safari for new WordPress posts as Opera has a bug when you start a new paragraph on WordPress’ software it doesn’t start a new line automatically which then throws the CSS coding off and your text runs into the rest of the page.
Steve Jobs Macworld 2008 Keynote in 60 Seconds
Steve Jobs Macworld 2008 Keynote in 60 Seconds
An awesome fast forward through Steve Job’s latest keynote. It gets to all the important stuff nice and fast. It’s absolutely worth a look.
Is Apple in danger of becoming Microsoft?
Is Apple really that evil company that throws caution to the wind while doing everything it can to turn an even bigger profit? Some think so. And that’s why Apple may become the next generation’s evil empire. Just don’t expect me to agree.
I’m really hoping that this isn’t true but now that I’m thinking about it I certainly can see how Apple is becoming Micro$oft, at least you can’t use the dollar sign in Apple ;). The link is a good read, I recommend it.
A Funny Look at Macworld
Nobody’s perfect and that includes Steve Jobs. This clip I found on Digg highlight some of the bloopers in Macworld.
‘Don’t Give up on Vista’ Ad from Apple
Apparently Apple came out with an awesome new web only ad that only appears in ad form on websites. Also this is the best use of two ad spots I’ve seen in a long time, it uses both the normal ad on the top of a page as well as the ads on the right of the page together. Take a look at it, it’s worth it.
Apple Posts Leopard 10.5.1 Update - The First Update, Epic
Weighing in at 109MB, this looks to be a fairly significant update. Wow, it didn’t take long for the first update but I suppose that’s a good thing, Apple cares!
Base System Error Workaround
What seems to be a fairly common error with installing Leopard is an error message stating that there was an error reading the ‘Base System’ or something to that effect. From what I’ve read this seems to be a problem with the hardwired RAM in the computer. Well since I was trying to install Leopard on a completely factory G4 powerbook I didn’t have any memory to swap it out with, and besides why should I if Tiger doesn’t have any issues with it and System Profiler says it’s ok. So I managed to figure out a workaround, or at least for my situation. If you boot the computer you’re trying to install Leopard onto in Target Disk Mode (hold ‘T’ when starting the computer) and hook it up to another mac via firewire. This will mount the other computer and it’s drives as firewire drives. Now boot the other computer off of the Leopard disk (hold ‘C’ on startup to force) now you can select the firewire drive from the available drives (be careful when choosing). The install will go on as normal and hopefully without errors.
Now when I was done with the install something wild happened, well at least I was amazed by it. The computer that I was installing Leopard on managed to act as my boot drive on my normal computer. So I managed to boot the powerbook’s version of Leopard instead of my normal boot drive. So simply choose shut down from the menu and turn off both computers. Now unplug the computers and boot normally (everything should work) if this worked great, if not sorry.
Note: I am not responsible for any data loss from following my directions, they are simply a guideline and are only to be used at your discresion. Also I do not support piracy, the copies of Leopard used were legally obtained licences. Please don’t steal stuff!
Some Sweet Leopard Docks

You know you want your dock to look like this, read on to find out how.
From a site that I find to have a rather funny and very creative domain name, yellatducks.com I found a great list of Docks for Leopard. The site is absolutley worth taking a look at and maybe even trying some of these fancy docks, it is pretty easy as long as you follow dirrections, right now I’m actually using the wood dock (found on another site though). But this is by far the most comprehensive list of custom docks for Leopard.

It’s been a While
Well I just realized how long it’s been since I last blogged so I’m going to just give you a quick update of everything that’s going on in my life.
I’ve been using Leopard and it is awesome although I have had a few kernal panics it’s truely been awesome, it seems faster and more friendly to my computer than Tiger did. It seems to run more programs better without any issues of them getting really slow (even Lightroom is better). Time machine I’m not a big fan of only because I don’t have a big enough external hard drive. And yes I did experience the fated blue screen of death issue that some people have been having and an archive install wasn’t an option for me so following Apple’s dirrections I used their “advanced” fix even though it’s really easy.
Next, I’ve gotten back to running and it’s been great although I am still having stomach problems and my doctor isn’t exactly sure what the issue is now and is thinking I need a capsule endoscopy to help the diagnosis.
Even more, Thomaston cross country is the Connecticut State Class S champions for the third year in a row and now is gunning to become the first class “S” team to advance to the New England Championships in Cumberland, Maine. Good luck to all teams in the state open tomorrow and see you there.
Yes I’ve still got more to tell the world. I’ve uploaded a few new pictures to my flickr account (box on the right) so please go check them out and leave me some comments, I’d appreciate it.
I think that’s it for now I’m sure I’ll have some more over the weekend and keep the comments coming.
